Membership

Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company is always looking for dedicated people.  There are many areas that you can help out. Most of our members ride the suppression apparatus and many are cross trained to ride both the suppression apparatus and the ambulance.

To become a firefighter here at Reisterstown there are several classes that you will have to take but they are offered for free through the Maryland Fire Rescue Institute. If you wanted to become an EMT-B and ride the ambulance you could take the EMT class instead (or as well).

To apply: Please complete and submit a RVFC Membership Application.  As a potential member, you are required to submit a non-refundable check in the amount of $50.00.  Your check is to be made payable to the RVFC.  Please attach a copy of your driver’s license and any firefighter or EMS certifications you have earned to your application.  Your application, check and all other documents are to be submitted to the RVFC Membership Committee in a sealed envelope.  As part of the membership process, you must undergo a background check (background check form) and drug testing.  You will be notified of the time and place you are to report for drug testing.  Your notification for drug testing will specify the time requirement for you to complete the drug test.

Please understand that filing an application does not guarantee membership nor an offer of membership.  Membership must be earned based on the requirements stated herein.

Probationary Period: If you are elected to membership, you will serve a minimum one (1) year as a probationary member.  Within that one year period, you must meet the requirement of: Firefighter 1 or Maryland EMT-B training, complete Hazmat Core Competency Class and Blood Bourne Pathogens training, complete a minimum of 30 hours of “in-house” training, complete a CPR course, complete a minimum eighteen (18) duty hours in each quarter of your probationary period, and complete ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 training.  Three meetings, each quarter, are required during your probationary year. The Membership Committee will track your progress during your probationary period.  If you have completed all requirements stated herein, the Membership Committee will recommend to the general membership that you be removed from probationary status to full member status.

Should you have question on membership or the application, please email join@rvfc.org or call for a member of the Membership Committee at (410) 833-1370.  We look forward to your successful and long term membership.
