Our typical calls are EMS related, fires and motor vehicle collisions. But there are times where a call might require us to use ropes. It could be anything from helping get someone out of a tree to tying off a stokes basket to help guide an injured person up a hill. So, rope training is an important skill to have. Last night a few of us did some impromptu rope training under the guidance of a member who was the Captain of the technical rescue team in Baltimore County.

Extrication Training
Tonight some newer members did basic extrication training on a car that was donated to the fire house. It is good for all members to have an understanding on how we do extrication even before the take the vehicle and machinery classes.
E413 to FRA for FF1 Class
E413 went down to the Baltimore County Fire Rescue Academy to support a firefighter at RVFC who is in the Firefighter 1 Class. Sunday was the first set of “burns” where the instructors set small fires in the burn building and the students advance a handline into the building and put the fire out.
Pump Operator Training with Company 40 and 56
Tonight, Reisterstown got together with Glyndon Volunteers (40) and Franklin (56) to do pump operator training. E401 from Glyndon laid a hose line from the hydrant and E413 pumped the line. Other hose line training was done with some newer members too.
Engine Training
Last night E412 and E413 went out to train on pumping the engine and handline operations. We have several members who recently finished classes and so took them out to go over our engines specifically. We hooked up to the hydrant, pulled an attack line, flowed the deck gun and had one engine pump the second engine.
Heavy Rescue Training
This morning we did a heavy rescue training at Rockdale Towing and Peter’s Body Shop. They had set up two scenarios, one with a school bus partially on its side and leaning on a car and then a motor home sitting on top of a car. We don’t see these types of scenarios often (thankfully for all) but they are things that can happen, so it was great to be able to train on them in a controlled environment.
Engine Ops Training
Tonight, RVFC got together with Station 56 to do engine operation training in our first due. We hooked up to the hydrant, pulled handlines, ran the blitz-fire (high flow nozzle), and deck gun.
Electric car training
Last night Mike and Gabe from Tesla Motors Owings Mills came down and did a great presentation about electric cars. The focus was auto accidents and car fires in particular but also included a great background about electric vehicles. Part of the time was a video and power point presentation and the second half was a hands on vehicle overview of two Teslas they brought up for us to go over. RVFC hosted firefighters from E401, T404, E56, E18, T18, IV118, E19, E13, T13 and BC2 for the training.
Many thanks to Mike and Gabe for be willing to take an evening out of their time to do training for the North West side of Baltimore County.
BGE Hazard Training
Tonight BGE came up to the station to do gas and electrical hazard training with Stations 40, 56 and 41.
Extrication Training
Every so often we get some vehicles donated to the firehouse so we can do training on efficient methods of extricating patients out of vehicles. Last night was one of those nights. We had all the tools of the squad and practiced opening doors, cutting, removing the roof, removing the rear tail gate etc.
