Apartment Fire

This morning E412 was alerted for an apartment fire in Franklin fire station’s area. E412 arrived along with other units to find a small fire in an apartment that was extinguished by the fire department. E412 remained on scene for overhaul.

S414 Dedication

Tonight, S414 was placed in service at the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company. The announcement:

The Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company and the community of Reisterstown proudly place in service Squad 414. The new Squad 414 is a 2019 Seagrave Marauder 2 with a Rescue 1 twenty foot walk around rescue body.  This unit meets rescue squad standards for the Baltimore County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association and Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association.

Chief Rund and Assistant Chief Utz, BCVFA President Tom Ludwig along with Izzy Patoka and others were present and we thank them for their support.

Stokes Basket Training with T18

Yesterday T18 came up to Station 41 to train on the new Stokes Basket SOP. The stokes basket is the wireframe basket that we use to move injured people from difficult to reach places (e.g., rooftops, down and embankment). BCoFD came out with a new SOP on how to set it up so we spent some time training on it.

Squad Training at Rockdale

Today S414, E412, SU418 and T18 met at Rockdale for rescue training. Rockdale setup a vehicle on its side and another under a box truck. Crews worked with the squad tools, in particular as we have some new tools on there. It was a great time for all.

Many thanks to Rockdale for hosting us.

Squad Training

This past Saturday members trained on the squad. There are numerous new tools that were not on our old squad that we have to get familiar with before it goes in service. Hopefully over the next week or so we will be able to get everyone through to be proficient on the apparatus.

S414 in Reisterstown

The new S414 has arrived in Reisterstown to our station. It was driven up from Jessup by one of our senior drivers, Henry Eckhardt Jr, along with our Chief Craig Hewitt and chair of the squad committee Bob Murray Jr.

The squad has several stops and we have training to do before it goes in service. But hopefully it will be in service within a couple of weeks. More details about the squad will be posted soon.

Cribbing for the New S414

Last night several members worked on getting the cribbing ready for our new S414. The new squad is in its final stages and should be delivered to us soon.

The cribbing being worked in the pictures is one of the things that is carried on each squad (and truck) in Baltimore County. The main use is for stabilization of a vehicle at an MVC. A whole, large compartment is dedicated to cribbing.
